Software recommendation needed (3D drawing) by Control2004-10-22 01:50:10
  free alternative (blender3d) by skyfloater 2006-11-19 12:55:59
funny, I did exactly the same thing today :) I'm also looking for a 3D modelling tool, which allows me to import the 3D objects in an Ada GTK OpenGL program.
Have you tried Blender3D? blender3d.com

It's open source, free, available for all major platforms, the sample images on their website look absolutely stunning, and it exports to a variety of formats, including Lightwave (what I'm going to use, because I have an import module for it, which is supplied with the GtkAda package), raw triangles, VRML, etc. I had a short look at it only, just found it today. As it goes with basically all 3D modellers, they require some training, and are a bit complicated to use because of the millions of options. Looks alright, though.

Has anyone really used it yet? Recommendations??
