It wasn't pretty. The customer had no backup of their data. :( The drive malfunctioned and the following components had to be replaced (it shorted them out): Motherboard CD-ROM drive CD-Recorder I spent a week trying to recover data off of it, all I got was intermittent failure of my EIDE controller as a result.
