My network acts the same way at times, it did it last week when I brought home a customer's WinXP machine that was infected with multiple worms. The worms were vigorously trying to attack the router, my Win98 box, & my linux box. The router would eventually de-activate itself to stop the attacks (or at least overheat & stall). Once I reset the router, & destroyed the worms, all was fine.
If your problem is caused by a failing modem it is the responsibility of your local broadband provider to test it (provided that you rent the modem). DO NOT FORGET!! : your caTV or DSL line needs surge protection also!!! I have been through that, my modem was damaged by a surge on the cable line & would not send data. |
