The "Auto PC" was a car stereo that ran Windows CE and had the ability to respond to voice commands.

And if you note, the systems controlled by Windows are isolated from the car's primary systems, so a Windows crash would not result in a car crash. Getting bad directions or dialing the wrong phone number, sure; heck, my car does that well enough (Toyota Prius, has most of the features described in that article, and is quite entertaining in its voice command interpretation).
