I know it's been said a gazillion times by now, but since I finally got through the entire DVD trilogy, I just had to rant.
If he wanted to improve his original trilogy, why didn't he actually *improve* it?
Greedo shoots first: very bad.
Jabba's scene in New Hope: the DVD remake is better, but he still looks way too thin.
Reshooting of parts of the Death Star battle in CGI: not bad, but it made the original footage look that much worse, especially with the very visible masks around the ships (still visible in all three movies).
Re-editing the emperor's scene in Empire to use Ian McDiarmid: ok, but I still think the emperor ages way too much between Empire and Jedi.
Redubbing Boba Fett's lines with Temuera Morrison: neat idea, but I barely noticed.
Changing "You're lucky you don't taste too good" to "You're lucky you got out of there" on Dagobah: lame (although according to the commentary, completely by accident).
Adding the Venus flytrap head to the Sarlacc: lame (thought it was cooler to be just a gaping mouth, not a plant).
Re-editing to have Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker's ghost: awful. He *looks* like he was very hastily filmed and cut in, like the whole time he's saying, "Ok, so I just stand here? Do you need me to stand here more? Should I stand differently? Did Lucas say 'cut' yet?" |
