Contains this...
Mr. Kerry testified in 1971 before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, however, citing accusations that American soldiers in Vietnam routinely committed atrocities such as beheadings, killing children and razing villages. He did not present evidence of these claims.
Now, I have no knowledge of John Kerry's testimony in 71. I have seen no tapes/transcripts/etc. Maybe he never said anything remotely close to this or maybe he did. I haven't looked into it because it is not something I will consider when voting.
But, when it comes to this particular discussion, I see these options:
1) Kerry said the above things and they are true - No apology is necessary.
2) Kerry did not say the above at all - No apology is necessary
3) Kerry said the things above and they are false - Apology necessary
and for completeness 4) Kerry never said the above, but the statements would have been true if he had said them, but he....argh! of gone crosseyed trying to follow that.
Now if DR's point was to place the two links out there to:
a) show that Jane Fonda apologized for what she did and
b) show what he thought John Kerrys objectionable behaviour was that he never apologized for, then I think he made his point.
The more effective response to this may have been to point out that 3 is not true/has been apologized for/is taken out of context. No one here has done that. Maybe 3 is true and his point stands.
But then, maybe this point has been debated here before and the above has already been done. |
