I think it was a legitimate question. In my younger years I witnessed a few people close to me die and had quite a few more die while I wasn't present. Plus a few other hardships. My take on it is that either the Doc was surprised (and the facial expression would confirm that assesment) or the question was one that she felt needed to be asked in the light of the evaluation being given prior to a military assignment. If the Doc didn't sign off I didn't get the assignment. (she did)
