Besides from them being "disks", and I 've been told that "tapes" have a longer shelf life. But that might be because tape can almost only be used for "backup", and the disk, even when holding backed-up data, WILL be accessed much more often.
No, I googled for your deskstar, and found IBM and Hitachi.
What I saw from IBM seemed to be "robust" -up till now- and from Hitachi I only know the electropneumatic hammer-drill. No "fine" electronics yet.
So please fill me in: are these DeskStar disks not worth their stars? Is there better out there to use?
At least "deskstar AND MBTF" leads me to "350,000 hours" quotes. That seems OK for me: 350,000 hours looks a LOT like "almost 50 years" |
