No really, if you do a couple of good things, what is the chance that no one will fnd out? So it really is a gamble if anybody finds out, or not. Also,as an afterthought, doing things to improve "the whole" may improve your lot in the end, even if nobody does find out, i.e. your beloved/friend/co-worker will feel better, and thus treat you nicer.
