"The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight" and "nothing which is more important than his own personal safety" are not synonomous; it is entirely possible to be opposed to war, and other forms of violence, and be willing to sacrifice one's personal safety. Prime examples of this are the Buddhist monks who set themselves on fire to protest the government and, of course, Gandhi.
