>A pair or three of clown loaches always are good in my book. They are orange and black and are great fun to watch.
Quite, but this may be too small a tank for that particular joy. I've been told that loaches do better in groups of three or so, as do cory cats, but definitely bottom-feeders are generally territorial. A 20-gallon may not give three loaches enough room to get away from each other's spines when they need to. (Note: if adding a bottom-feeder to a tank already housing bottom-feeders, rearrange the tank fixtures, rocks, etc. to reset the territorial claims.)
>The other thing is to buy them from a store that specializes in fish. SO often the megamarts don't have staff that know how to maintain the tanks properly. If you see floaters, that is a bad sign.
Seconded. Although I've been advised, and found it good, that the test isn't finding floaters. After all, the fish get shipped in from all over, in stressful conditions, outside the shop's control. The test is going to an employee and *pointing out* a floater. If you get, "Oh yeah, those just came in and we thought they looked rough. Let me take care of that right away," you've got your supplier. If you get a blank look or a complacent, "Yeah, sure, thanks" followed by the employee going back to shelving fish food, walk out and don't go back. |
