Mechanically, they were the same. The butstock was added so that it could be used as a club in Riot situations.

Now for my question... I will post my last one again...

Who is to blame for using a multiple warp and stop pattern creating a "uncloaking" effect which then caused the Romulans to create the cloaking device? Give name of the Captain, ship, and the person that thought of the manuver.

Now, there has to be a trekkie out there that knows the answer to this...
