Power from USB? by silvermoon82 2004-09-24 12:05:18
I think the fan in my laptop is dying. Wouldn't surprise me, the machine is ~4 years old, and has suffered some abuse.

What I'd like to do is just tack on an external fan (maybe a 60mm case fan, something like that) on the outside. The problem is powering it - 120VAC would be a bad thing, and I don't want to tear the notebook apart and try to find a 12V line to take the fan off.

Would it be possible to power a case fan off an available USB port? Probably not, just grasping at straws. I've *seen* USB fans, but they're the open, not-ducted type so I don't think one of them would do the job (desides, unprotected fan blades and me are a sure recipe for a trip to emerg.
