... is that of WWI. Kaiser Wilhelm II, ruler of Germany, and Tsar Nicholas II, ruler of Russia, both grandchildren of Queen Victoria, leader of England before her death in 1901. One family, three nations -- pleading telegrams between the cousins were not enough to halt the procession towards the war. Kaiser Wilhelm was not at war with this grandmother, nor his dear cousin in Russia -- rather, the Germans were at war with the Russians and the English (and of course, the French).

War may be started by individuals, but once begun, it is a battle of nations.
