                    We still have to consider each state by Naruki 2004-09-24 10:51:03
as a distinct political entity. The whole idea to the USofA was that we are independent states with a weak central government. The Republican ideal was to remain that way.

Now that the central government is so strong, we tend to identify more and more as Americans rather than "State X"ians.

But just switching to a popular vote means we _really_ screw over smaller-population states, rather than just mildly screwing them over.

If a state cares so little about its constituents that it chooses to use an "all or nothing" method of representing itself, that should probably remain its choice.

But we shouldn't say that a state with only 1% of the total US population is completely ignored.

At least, not until we _do_ switch to a "true" national government.
