I'd suggest not going farther north than central Ontario, and I believe it's warmer on the west coast.

Here in Kingston (right on Lake Ontario, if there wasn't an island or two in the way, I could look at New York state), we can sometimes get -30 or -35°C (-22 to -31°F) or so, with another -15 or -20°C wind chill. Cold, but tolerable - should be fairly close to what you'd see in Michgan.
