| I suggest that not all and even not the vast majority of countries have populations that prefer Western-style democracy. Case in point: a Brit friend of mine lives and works in Dubai, in the UAE. The Emirates are a benevolent dictatorship, and by all accounts is a fab place to live and work. Citizens of the UAE, for example, have their schooling (and housing and food and a generous living allowance on top of that) paid for all the way through to doctorate levels should they elect to walk the path of higher education.
So contrary to popular belief, Western democracy isn't the end-all be-all. And yet here we are going about and imposing it on people. Yippee. |
