.. for one, most modern democracies have systems in place so, for example, 40% are happy with the result, 40% are somewhat satisfied or at least ambivalent, and only 20% are truly unhappy. Democracy *is* about compromise -- not about tyranny of the majority.
Besides, in Canada where I live, for example, the people as a whole really don't actually vote on issues except for a rare referendum. Most democracies are representative so that governments don't have to send out millions of ballots for each decision. |
