is that whales and dolphins appear to belong in this group.
The position of whales and dolphins (Order Cetacea) has been thoroughly debated in this phylogeny since fossil evidence pointed to a relationship among the ungulates.
All modern ungulates are descended from the Condylarthra, an extinct order of hoofed mammals from the upper Cretaceous period (65 million years ago).
So, mammals evolved from sea life. Then, some mammals went back into the sea? Evolutionary science baffles me.
