I've lived in Paris and I've been to Rome. Paris is open compared to Rome. both cities tend to be street->sidewalk->building with no green space at all. They don't always have tall buildings (10 floors or so) but it still gets very closed in. Vancouver on the other hand has a nice mix of buildings and you never feel closed in.
The other thing about Vancouver is that it's green, I missed that so much when I lived in Paris... One of the things that made me homesick, Vancouver is an urban sprawl of medium density, you can get tall buildings but they aren't all clustered together.
As for homeless and 10,000 suit, well it'll happen here, in Paris, in Rome and anywhere else people congregate. There is nothing to be done about it. The bigger the city gets the more impersonal it is. |
