Needing help and suggestions... by GigiNYC2004-09-22 18:59:53
Probably have tried this by tangrene 2004-09-22 21:04:49
Hi, reading the thread and see that everyone has suggested just what I do for clients with similar problem, however, I have one suggestion to add. I personally wouldn't even waste time checking this out IF the client was willing to just nuke and re-install. But I found a couple of clients piddling round with some of the Spybot and Spyware Blaster settings, in particular in reference to a Host file. I doubt this is your problem, but I have occasionally seen someone accidently change some of their setting related to the host file that will make it really difficult to access a great number of web sites that are ad driven. Just a thought... if the problem is mostly just internet related and you think she is pretty safe from adware/malware/spyware. I think it will be less time consuming to just nuke it all and start fresh with the newest versions of Spybot and Spyguard and Spyware blaster. 95% of all my clients problems in the last 2 years are related to malware/adware/spyware problems, which of course lead to all sorts of other problems. It is always a fine line as to how strict of settings to put on a clients machine, no one wants to get called later complaining that they can't play their internet games. If her problem was related to the wrong or too much RAM she probably should have seen the problem right away IE) BSOD's if they boot up... at least that has been my experience in upgrading older machines.
