Election Parties (US) by mortaine 2004-09-22 17:45:35
Someone on LJ asked today if anyone still hosts election parties.

Well, *I* will be hosting one. Oh, sure, it's not at my house, and we won't have the TV or radio on. And you have to cover up if you wear a partisan T-Shirt... but it's still a party.

Yes, my friends. It's the Great All-American Election Party at your Local Polling Place. Drop by and drop your vote in! Exercise your franchise! Participate in the democratic process!

I don't know about other places, but I know that MY precinct will have chocolate and other post-Halloween nibbles, especially for the early voting crowd.

So come on by! Vote early! Get chocolate! And then go about your day with the smug self-satisfaction of having participated in Your Government At Work.

Oh, and if you can spare a smile for the nice folks taking your ballots, it'd be nice. We typically work a 16-hour day for about $60 compensation, and when we go home, the election's usually already been decided, even though our ballots haven't even been counted yet. It's kind of thankless sometimes. But chocolate! We get chocolate!
