It's basic riding common sence. You want to ride roughly in the middle because that gives you the best line of sight, keeps you away from opening doors and gives you a few seconds reaction if someone pulls out of a junction without looking. But of course there is the oil so you basically pick the side of the line that is safest for the current road.
