Great leadership at work by cristobal2006-11-19 12:55:59
no applause? by gdgrimm 2004-09-22 13:26:30
I was actually stunned about how many reporters commented on there being no applause during his speech.

Has any of them actually watched a UN General Assembly audience during a speech? Almost half of delegates are wearing large, white headsets so they can here the interpreter translating the speech into their native language. So they're hearing the speakers comments with a significant delay.

You'll never see reaction at a General Assembly be the same as at any single language audience.

You may be able to read a little something into how much applause preceeds or proceeds the speech, but nobody is going to react much during the speech.

I expect such lackluster thinking from Rather, but I'm still amazed at how often I see from all the other journalists.
