| In 1988, he did a special report interviewing several Vietnam veterans who talked about atrocities they committed or witnessed while over there. Not long after that aired, the truth came out that the veterans Rather interviewed and based his whole story on lied about when they were over there, where they were at the time, and as it turns out were nowhere near any of the 'atrocities' they attested to. Some of them in fact weren't even in Vietnam during the war--they were stationed in Japan at the time. Rather's lack of due dilligence made someone else have to go fishing and find the service records of the soldiers in question. Rather can't be trusted, at least in my estimation. His credibility should have been questioned since 1963, when he insisted he'd seen the Zapruder film and saw the head snap *forward*. |
