that while it is true that "[s]omething else must occur" in order for you to be killed, you may not be in control of that "something". Responsible, cautious drivers can diminish the probability of that "something" occurring, but they can't reduce it to zero.

So, no, it's not entirely true that "if the only thing you do 'wrong' is speed, you are not going to die." You might die even if _you_ do nothing wrong--and the faster you're going, the more likely that is to happen no matter how careful you are.
