He represents the entire country. His is the only voice for the USA in the UN. To the rest of the world, he has just reinforced the commonly held stereotype of Americans being arrogant asshats. And while there are those of us who stop and think and realise just how silly some stereotypes are, there are far, far more who believe those stereotypes are real.
