I said they have better precedent. I didn't say it was a better idea. Metric has been around quite a bit longer than computers and the metric prefixes are defined to mean even powers of ten. Therefore, the computer industry's use of the metric prefixes was misguided given that they aren't defined to be the same as the standard definitions.

I realize that it's pure marketing, but for once the marketers are actually more technically correct than the technical folks. We technical folks just don't like to admit that.
