there is no coherent formula to generate stardates. While I don't doubt some trek freaks out there have tried to come up with them, there is no canonical way to determine them, if anything the stardates found in canon are spread out in such a way as to be irreconcilable. About the only thing which helps predict a stardate at all is the series/season/episode of a given show, which tends to determine the first few digits.

Assuming that's an acceptably detailed explanation:
An attempted explanation is given in one of the Star Trek books as to how stardates are meant to be calculated, how is it done?
