"nice shade of grey" ? That brings the Q down to: "(s)he gets the X-background, no windowmanager. HOW to escape from that to a "terminal", or else: "HOW do you OPEN A COMMAND LINE" in that situation? (Sorry, I've let the Linux info rot a bit, it's really time to go and refresh. Luckily I got the -old- RedHat (must be a 6 or some, with a mozilla1.0 installed) w*rking again. Now I CAN try to refresh ... only time needed.
