I have not been as active since I have been swamped at work with a bunch of new cases.
However, I never mentioned this was a useless dicussion. I just feel that when people want the law to be changed, for whatever reason, it usually brings about a negative attitude from both sides. People claim it has to do with religion. It does not. Homosexuality is frowned upon by religions other than Christianity and by agnostics/atheist who just don't see it as 'normal'.
It is best to just focus on HOW to ease the situation. Why do gays want the right to marry? So they can have the benefits of social security, power of attorney, insurance benefits, etc, that are reserved for couples with that married status.
Instead of focusing on who doesnt like gay marriages. We ALL should focus on how to rectify the situation. My suggestion would be have a new tax status, "Life Partner". this way those who do not completely agree with marriage at all (as I don't) can still share their benefits with their signficant other, regardless of gender.
Of course it would have to be clarified that Life Partners must be human... |
