take along the nice color printer you have, and buy a new scanner that doesn't take up as much space. The thinline canon ones are cool, there's also someone in my building that has a VERTICAL flatbed scanner - wierd... You say you don't have enough space... you can store it vertically when not in use, or just stick it in a drawer. The thin canon scanners are quite durable, and small enough to just put away when you're not using it.
