just not spelled out. Yes, it is the responsibility of the person to do their best to overcome $whatever. But addiction science has shown that it's not a one-off happening. The emphasis on my question is on the "one-time help and then to hell with you" position you are espousing.

It benefits society to continue to offer help to those seeking help no matter how many times they slide--sometimes it takes two, three or ten attempts before a person is truly ready to change.

I also notice that you didn't address whether that philosophy should be applied to all social programs.
