I don't see the elitism he's being accused of. He's frustrated with the unthinking, uneducated pap that makes for popular opinion, but I don't think that's elitism.

And yes, if I come across someone who spews unthinking, uneducated pap, and they're unwilling to consider other stances just because they aren't popular, I am judging that person. And not favourably either.
