Firefox has taken the "releve" from Mozilla, it's the next generation if you will. In firefox they have also seperated out all the components (mail, irc and composer) and created seperate applications for them. Mail became Thunderbird, IRC is a plugin (I think, some one will be sure to correct me.) and composer, well they abondonded that, to no great loss.
