then you'd have a point, and so would Sheriff Joe. Unfortunately, crime is committed for a number of reasons, such as poverty, addiction, and abuse (to name only three). Crime is not commited because people want to spend their lives in prison. Awful living conditions in prison will not deter people from committing crimes.
I also note that, while this much-too-often posted snippet quotes "Sheriff Joe" and details the inhumane conditions the inmates live under, at no point does it discuss how much crime has actually dropped, and whether any decreases can be attributed to this program or any other crime-prevention program (like, say addiction treatment centers). |
