Have you NYC UFies bought your provisions yet? by thewrongcrowd2006-11-19 12:55:59
I live and work on the East Side... by GigiNYC 2004-07-14 13:17:51
...and there actually aren't many major hotels near where I live, so I doubt this will affect me as much as some other people. However, I am inclined to wonder just what prompted the GOP to hold the convention here given that NYC hardly tends to be a stronghold of conservative values! Part of me is tempted to wonder, however, if someone wasn't planning this as a giant "in yer face" to the Democrats. For myself, I have a problem with the GOP using New York (as in New York = 9/11) to rally the nation around a President who if the stories are true was only too willing to use 9/11 to further his own pre-existing agenda...especially given that last I heard, we never did receive most of the monetary relief that GWB promised us shortly after the attacks. Perhaps this is his way of making it up to us...at least the convention will bring some extra money and business into the city, however briefly. Frankly, we could use it -- IMO, the economy in this town is still struggling to recover.
