Wild Land Fire about 3 miles from my house	by nvparrothead	2004-07-14 13:09:29
There is a 300+ acre fire that we are watching from our home. The fire broke out about 3am this morning (UFie time.) We are not in danger but they have already evacuated the homes in the area just below the fire. The main problem is that the winds are inconsistent and the fire is spreading both up and down the mountainside. They are considering it a major fire and have 1 C-131 Plane, 3 small planes and 5 helos as well as 17 engines at the scene and 35 standing by as backup. They have brought in fire crews from as far as 100 miles away already and have a full staging area setup. This is my fifth year in Carson City and this is the worst (and closest) fire I have seen yet. My neighbors (3 young guys) are all firefighters and just got recalled to duty. Please send thoughts, good wishes or prayers (whatever your beliefs are) to the firefighters battling the fire.
