| OK, I'm wondering... |

currently, there are no keys available for Tribes 2, so the free downloads are stopped, but I'm sure there are several UFies that have it anyway. I would like if possible to get a game going; I'd like the gametype to be Team Rabbit 2, as that's included in the current version, and Team Rabbit 2 appeals to me; it's fast-paced, and more sport than combat based, plus with the basic "pass" being a Llama's Grab, it should fit nicely with the UFie mindset ;)
What we would need for this to be feasible:
- Someone with a spare box and bandwidth to host (I would, if I had more than 150kbps cable and a spare box to use as a dedicated server; I would FAR rather a dedicated server than a listen server)
- People interested enough to join in!
Brief overview of Team Rabbit 2 gametype:
- Two teams, each spawning in a "hutch" outside the field of play
- One flag, starting in the centre of the field, thereafter being run and passed around
- Two goals, one for each team to defend against the other team attempting to throw the flag into it
- Time limit of 15 seconds on flag carrying; if you fail to pass within 15 seconds, it HURTS!
- Score per goal based on complexity of passes leading up to the score; handing over the flag scores low, bouncing it off two arena walls to be caught from behind by someone heading in a completely different direction while at high altitude scores high.
- Short, fast-paced matches in (for Tribes 2) very small arenas of about 2 km square, designed to make skiing easy (you can get up tremendous speeds)
- Well-implemented team roles and armour (if you're in the opposing half, you're an attacker; light, fragile, fast and lightly armed. Go into the third of the field nearest your goal and you're defense, a bit slower, better protected and better armed. Be the player in the goal zone and you're the Goalie; huge, slow, tough and heavily armed, able to scatter players easily)
- Emphasis on disruption rather than killing; anyone "killed" on the field of play will immediately respawn in the same spot, with the same inventory (it takes a ^K to resupply), and most of the weapons have had damage toned down and impulse increased, to throw rather than damage players.
So. Anyone interested? Anyone got the means to host? We're looking at a pretty light game, net-wise; it had to be, to allow 64-player support in 2001... |
