| are not the same thing. The amendment isn't religious as it is attempting to amend a secular document and a secular practice; That is the point. Neither the document, nor the behavior to be defined are religious in nature, regardless of the (clearly religious) justifications being used to support it. Spewing religious justifications for something doesn't automatically make it religious either. For instance, Thou Shalt Not Kill is a necessary part of law for good secular reasons despite the religious reich laying claim to it as part of the 10 Commandments. |
