However, they do have an exception policy. They kind of have to since a major program in use by most of our administrative folks is an add-on to Outlook and it's not compatable with the latest versions and patches. They also exclude certain servers that may be running things like Oracle... Since I'm not developing, I'm not too worried about MSUS as if something screws up my machine, I'll be well on my way to learning how to put it back together by the time my users start to beat me up.
