Free speech always has restrictions, the classic no yelling fire in a crowded area comes to mind. They were wearing clothing that clearly indicated they were protestors. As someone else explained, protestors are kept in one area so that security can watch for any riots. It's not unreasonable, emotions run high, and mobs do ugly things.
