Funny jokes, yes... but jokes are not expected to be real, while "humorous anecdotes" get repeated as fact.

By now, hopefully, most people realize that almost everything that gets forwarded around on the internet has only a passing acquaintance with the truth. :)

Note to all: I'm really cheerful about this, not taking anyone to task, not bent out of shape about it at all... just trying to do my small part for truth, justice, and the Antarctic way.
