Posted this rather late yesterday, and not with a very attention-getting TLP. Figured that for those who didn't catch it, it might be interesting info to read. Apologies to those for whom it's redundant.
Credit for bringing the situation to my attention goes to The Sorrows of Empire, an excellent and very disturbing analysis of the American military complex, both current and past. Highly recommended reading.
Did you know that as of the end of fiscal year 2003, the Department of Defense publicly acknowledges that America has over 700 American military bases outside the US? (Back in 1991, that number was 395, and the Pentagon claimed it was going to decrease them.) More than seven hundred bases on foreign soil.
There are only, as of 2003, only 193 sovereign states in the world. So, if every nation in the WORLD had equal importance in our eyes, EVERY ONE would have more than three American military bases on their soil. And those are the publicly acknowledged installations.
Of course that isn't the case. There are plenty with none, and plenty with WAY more than 3.
But it makes you think. Or it ought to.
As Naruki deftly pointed out yesterday, how many foreign military bases do WE host? |
