would be a simple text replacement. It'd scramble things okay, and easily reversable. Not the best security, but it would hold you for a week while you worked on the replacement.

Also doing some MD5's or similar of the message could check to make sure that it's not getting fubar'd

Just a thought.

To offer real help I think we'll need a bit more information on what you use / what needs to happen.
