As for black clouds... nah. It'd just need Dinorwig to cope with the startup surge (note for those that didn't get told about Dinorwig in Geography GCSEs: it's in Wales. Basically a high lake, a low lake, a bunch of hydro generators in between and lots of pumps. It's usually sitting idle; it tends to be activated at half-time in the cup final and similar events, when most of the nation switches on their kettles. It can generate a HUGE amount of power - for about two minutes. Then it becomes a power SINK as they pump all the water back up.) and I'd be putting a small load on every station in the country, due to the UK's grid system...
