Though that is not quite true either as this is the fifth republic.
:)
Still, it's cause for some celebration, and while leaving your nice warm bed to watch the parade march by might not be your thing, fireworks and good food are always fun.

I wish I were closer to the border, when I lived with my parents we were only 5km away from France and we would go to the fête.
Or even staying at home was nice as the southern part of lake Geneva is French we would watch their fireworks go up from our side of the lake.
From here it's a bit too far and the Jura mountain gets in the way of any possible view.
