OK, perhaps then I should restate myself... | by nate_t_g | 2004-07-12 22:12:50 |
| If you restate it like that, what's the point? |

We're more interested in truth than in who wins. At this point the winner could be the good guys, but it could equally well be Bush and Bin Laden. None of that will be "the truth", so there is no point in waiting around until History glosses over the truth.
But finding out the truth now may help prevent Bush from winning, so it's worth our while to do so. Again. And again. Ad nauseum. (Getting the truth out of Bush is like getting a stable browser from Microsoft.)
What was "funny ha ha not really" about your previous post is that you actually dismiss the opposition so casually while accusing them of being biased.
I am quite capable of reading someone else's statements and separating the facts from the rhetoric - critical thinking should be a skill every kid learns.
Being unable to parse the facts from a persuasive opinion is usually a sign of weakness on the reader's part, not the writer. Somehow, I don't think you actually lack this skill, despite your implication that it is impossible to do in this case.
Indeed, you use the typical fence-sitters' copout by claiming that both sides are biased and unreasonable, so there's no point in you discussing it. And yet you took all this time to discuss it with us. If you really have no opinion, or feel that offering it is pointless, you would not have said anything.
Instead, I think you are on the Bush side (given your obvious defense of his actions), but are trying to appear neutral by using the copout argument.
But that's just what I'm reading from your post. I could be wrong. |
