| All you need from GoDaddy is to buy the domain, nothing else. Just pay your $8.95, and you're done.
Once you have the domain, you can host the DNS file somewhere else for free. My favorite is FreeDNS, which easily allows you to set up a program (or run a batch file/chron job) to update the IP address when you sign online (I assume your cable modem doesn't have a static IP address). When you sign up, they will tell you the DNS settings you will need to input to GoDaddy, and you will probably have to wait 24 hours for them to take effect. Once that is completed, check out the FreeDNS forums for instructions on auto-updating. |
