...that group has significant reason to be biased (as do many/most other groups within the government) so I am inclined to discount them unless outside objective sources (and that doesn't include other national govts) seem to corroborate their claims. For that, I prefer independent think tank and intelligence services that exist.
The think tanks may often have some bias themselves, but they generally "clearly" state it in their mission statement, so you can "color correct" what they find, and using such stuff from several viewpoints is fairly effective.
As for intelligence sources, several independent ones have long proved themselves equal to or better than most government intelligence sources, since private enterprise intelligence sources are driven, by the need to survive as an enterprise, to be as accurate as possible. Government institutions are often politically compromised and self-perpetuating, rarely held accountable for real and serious mistakes. |
